The Kremlin declined to say on Friday whether Russian President Vladimir Putin had apologized to Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett after the Russian Foreign Minister’s statement that Adolf Hitler was of Jewish descent.

Israel criticized Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov for his comments, describing his claims as an “unforgivable” lie that downplayed the horrors of the Nazi Holocaust.

Bennett said on Thursday that Putin apologized for the comment and that Bennett accepted the apology.
