At the launch of the Lula-Alckmin ticket, the vice presidential candidate’s speech was better than the ticket president’s speech. He attacked Bolsonaro, the former toucan governor now in the PSB, calling for national unity and making it clear that if elected, he would be a proxy who would not succumb to the temptations of dismissal.
Alckmin said he would be a “loyal partner” of former President Lula “until his work is completed”. With Covid, the former governor did not attend the pre-launch of the Lula-Alckmin ticket in São Paulo this Saturday. Seven parties support the ticket: PT, PSB, PC do B, PSOL, Rede, PV and Solidarity.

Alckmin echoed the mantra of dissidents abandoning differences “in defense of democracy” from their last speech. The former governor said Lula “reached out”. [para ser vice]he interpreted the move as a “call to real reason”.
He stated that the PT is “the only hope path for Brazil”, an indirect criticism of the articulators of the so-called third path. Voting for Lula would be the best choice for Brazil, according to the former governor.
Alckmin made a call for other political forces to join Lula and him in the presidential election. Before Lula joined the PSB to become vice-president, the MDB targeted potential dissidents from the PSD and even his party PSDB.
President Jair Bolsonaro was also targeted by Alckmin, who, in his opinion, formed the most “disastrous and cruel” government in Brazilian history. Bolsonaro would combine “ignorance” with “lie”. Alckmin, in good faith, said that a dish that will be successful in the election campaign will be chayote with squid, due to its nickname in politics.
Former President Lula chose to deliver a reading speech where he listed the points for a future government. The point of the warm, plastered talk was to avoid the blunders and improvisations that have caused headaches in recent weeks.
Taking advantage of Alckmin’s joke, Lula said that her “favorite dish” in 2022 will be chayote with Lula. He reiterated that Alckmin trusted him and his commitment to the country – launching a vaccine against their suspicions that they could argue in government because they were political dissidents.
Lula prioritized the unpopular word that he repeated many times throughout his speech, that Brazil must re-establish its “sovereignty.” PT listed the points of future government: foreign policy, education, health, economy, fight against hunger, basic cleaning, infrastructure investments, diversity, culture etc.
Talking about foreign policy, he remembered that Bolsonaro had turned Brazil into a global pariah. Like Alckmin, PT had some harsh words for Bolsonaro.
Towards the end of his speech, Lula said he would not go to power with hatred and that “dialogue” would be needed to rebuild a country that was being destroyed by Bolsonaro. The PT said that “fascism” “will go back to the sewer of history that should never have come out”. He pledged to launch a series of campaign actions during his trips to Brazil and spoke of a climate of hatred and intolerance in the public debate developed by Bolsonaro.
“There is no fear of provocation. No fear of fake news,” said PT.
“Choosing has never been easier,” Lula said in an ironic reference to an editorial published in the newspaper “O Estado de S. election.” According to the PT, Brazil should go back to being a “normal” country with “calm and calm” unlike what happened under Bolsonaro’s government.
