One of the top officials of the Russian Government launched this Sunday a stern warning against western powers and said that the purpose of the war in Ukraine was not to liberate that country from the Nazis, but from the occupation of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO).
“In a nuclear war, We will destroy NATO countries in half an hour“, wrote in his Telegram account the head of the Russian State Space Corporation, Dmitry Rogozin, one of the men of the Russian Government closest to President Vladimir Putin.
After the threat, he immediately clarified that “we should not allow it, because the consequences of exchanging nuclear attacks will affect the state of our Earth“.
“We need to defeat this more powerful economic and military enemy (of NATO) through traditional military means,” the Roscosmos director added.
After launching the invasion of Ukraine in late February, President Putin made lingering threats suggesting his willingness to use his country’s tactical nuclear weapons.
Last week, Russia said its forces were rehearsing a simulated launch of nuclear-capable missiles at the western exclave of Kaliningrad, in the midst of its military campaign in Ukraine.
Rogozin focused on the Western military alliance directly in his messages, emphasizing that Russia was not fighting “against the Nazis in Ukraine.”
“We have liberated Ukraine from NATO occupation and we keep the worst enemy away from our western borders. Even before the fascist coup in kyiv in 2014, the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry and Defense Ministry were satraps loyal to NATO, ”Rogozin said.
