Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced the delivery of new weapons and equipment to Ukraine on Sunday, following an unannounced visit to the Ukrainian capital, Kiev.
Trudeau, at a press conference after meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy, also said that Canada has imposed new sanctions on Russian individuals and organizations linked to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
“Today, I’m announcing more military assistance, drone cameras, satellite imagery, small arms, ammunition, and other support, including funding for mine clearance operations,” Trudeau said. Said.
“And we are imposing new sanctions on 40 Russian individuals and five organizations, oligarchs and close associates of the regime in the defense sector, all of whom are complicit in Putin’s war,” he said, referring to Russian President Vladimir Putin.
Trudeau visited the town of Irpin on the outskirts of Kiev, which was the focus of fierce fighting between Ukrainian and Russian troops before the Russians withdrew from the region in late March.

He also said that Canada has reopened its embassy in the Ukrainian capital.
Canada is providing $25 million to the United Nations (UN) World Food Program as part of its efforts to maintain food security and remove trade tariffs on all imports from Ukraine to Canada over the next year.
