The settlement, announced in Miami-Dade County court on Wednesday, ends with a class action lawsuit against several entities. In particular, the promoters of a construction project nearby were accused of contributing, due to the vibrations generated by their work, to the collapse of the damaged building.
With the exception of one young man who was rescued in the early hours, the rescuers, who worked hard for a month, did not rescue any of the occupants of this building during the disaster.
The reasons for the collapse of the building, called Champlain Towers South and which overlook the Surfside waterfront, have not yet been established with certainty, but initial elements of the investigation revealed that the building structure appears to be in the broken place.
