Abortion rights advocates began rallying across the US on Saturday in protests, and the US Supreme Court’s Roe v. Wade legalized abortion in the country.

Planned Parenthood, the Women’s March, and other abortion activist groups held more than 400 marches on Saturday, with the largest crowds expected in New York, Washington, Los Angeles and Chicago.

The demonstrations came in response to the May 2 leak of a draft resolution that showed the court’s conservative majority was ready to reverse the landmark 1973 decision establishing the federal constitutional right to abortion.

The court’s final decision, which could authorize states to ban abortion, is expected in June. About half of U.S. states may ban or severely restrict abortion shortly after the resolution overthrows Roe.

Organizers said they expect hundreds of thousands of people to attend Saturday’s events, which will be the first of many coordinated protests around the Supreme Court’s decision.
