Health authorities in Britain are on alert after four new cases of monkeypox, a rare infectious disease, have been confirmed.
“Monkeypox belongs to the same family of viruses as smallpox,” he told the expert site health line Dr. Robert Glatter, an emergency physician at Lenox Hill Hospital in New York.
Glatter explained that while it is “normal” to cause a milder infection than smallpox, the virus can be spread between people through direct contact with monkeypox lesions, body fluids or even contaminated materials, such as clothing or fabrics.

New cases of monkeypox in Britain
New cases of this rare infection in the UK have occurred in different parts of the country. Three happened in London and another case in the north-east of the country. However, the four seem to have contaminated the capital, the UK Health Security Agency (UKSHA).
Currently there seven confirmed cases in the UK, reviewed between May 6 and May 15.
The first case was a man who had recently traveled to Nigeria, where he was believed to have contracted the infection, before traveling to the UK.
The two cases announced on May 14 live in the same home. They were not related to the previous case and were infected during cohabitation in the same space.
“The four new cases introduce themselves as homosexual, bisexual, something weird,” Drs. Susan Hopkins, chief medical adviser at UKHSA, on monkeypox in Britain.
“The UKHSA is rapidly investigating the source of these infections as evidence suggests that there may have been transmission of the monkeypox virus in the community.spread through close contact, ”Hopkins added.
The specialist pointed that out the agency urges gay and bisexual men to be vigilant for any unusual rashes or sores and contact a sexual health service without delay.

The British agency also pointed out that there was no direct link to travel to a country where monkeypox is endemic.and exactly where and how they got their infections is being investigated, along with whether they have other links to each other.
TAll patients in need of medical care are in the specialist infectious disease units at Royal Free Hospital.the Royal Victoria Infirmary in Newcastle Upon Tyne, among other places dedicated to medical care.
How monkeypox is transmitted
