Pope Francis joked with a group of Mexican seminarians who asked about his knee pain. “You know what I need for the leg? Some tequila,” he said, getting laughter from the clergy.

The video, which went viral, was recorded at the general hearing on Wednesday and lasted several minutes.

One of the seminars was, “Pope Francis, how’s your knee?” he asks.

“He’s so capricious,” the Pope replies, speaking about knee problems when he was first seen in a wheelchair at a public event in early May and had to postpone his trip to Lebanon.

Then the theologian says to the Chaplain: “But thank you for your smile, for the joy of being here despite the hardships. You also set a great example for future priests.” Francis, 85, replies with a mischievous look from the traveling pope: “You know what I need for my leg? Some tequila.” Laughing is common.

“If we go to Santa Marta, we’ll bring a small bottle,” they said, referring to a visit to Francis’ private residence in the Vatican.

It is not the first time that the Argentine pastor has shown off his good humor and joked with the people who greeted him in the general audience.

In January, he disclosed his health problems to believers, including to a general audience. “It’s temporary. They say it only happens to old people, and I don’t know why it happened to me…” he concluded, smiling amid the applause of those present.
