The French Presidency announced on Monday (16) that after the two countries announced their accession to NATO, France would “stand by Finland and Sweden” in the event of aggression.
“Any state that wishes to test European solidarity through any form of threat or aggression against its sovereignty must be assured that France will stand by Finland and Sweden,” the French Presidency said in a note.
“France reaffirms its commitment under Article 42.7 of the Treaty on European Union and is ready to strengthen its defense and security cooperation with these two partners through high-level strategic consultations and further military interaction,” Elisha said.
42.7 of the Lisbon Treaty. is a mutual defense clause between EU member states.
