Itamaraty acts institutionally to maintain Brazil’s relations with strategic partners around the world, while a parallel diplomacy consolidates the government of Jair Bolsonaro (PL) as a leading actor in the world’s ultra-conservative movement.

Over the next two weeks, Brazilian representatives were invited to debate at events in Budapest, along with some of the world’s leading far-right parties, often accused of being xenophobic, supremacist, anti-immigration and threatening democracy.

One of these events will take place over the next few days and is organized by the influential Conservative Political Action Conference, an American organization that is one of the stages that supports the idea that Joe Biden’s victory in the American election was the result of fraud. There is no evidence of this, and all audits have pointed to a finding that the voting was legitimate.

A few weeks ago, an event organized by the same group in Orlando (Florida) featured the sale of “Trump Won” banners.

The group, which wants to realize its biggest event in Europe with the aim of being international, chose the extreme right leader Viktor Orbán’s Hungary as its host. Among the main names of the event, which will take place on 19 and 20 May, is Deputy Eduardo Bolsonaro (PSL).

The conference will also include some key allies of France’s far-right leader Marine Le Pen, extremist parties from Belgium, Austria and Spain, as well as Fox News influencers and journalists affiliated with former President Donald Trump. Another confirmed name is Nigel Farage, who heads the Brexit campaign in addition to the top of the Orbán government.

Human rights groups, experts, and even institutions like the UN and the European Union have already issued warnings about the role of these political forces in the disintegration of liberal democracy.

The agenda of the event includes themes such as “God, country and family”. In another discussion, the subject is announced with the following sentence: “Man is father, mother is woman”. Meetings are also planned to talk about the fact that “Western civilization is under attack”.

The Brazilian attorney, called by the column to explain his involvement, did not respond.

Events are not limited to the presence of Eduardo Bolsonaro. Days later, there will be another event, again in Hungary, that will bring together some of the conservative movement’s main interlocutors around the world. In this case, Brazil will be represented by the Minister of Family, Angela Gandra, who plays a central role in the external action of the Ministry of Family, Women and Human Rights.

The file sought did not respond to the secretary’s column on who would pay for the trip or what the government representative’s purpose in attending was.

“We inform you that next week, Minister Angela will be on vacation from 23 May to 11 June,” the ministry said. Therefore, any trips during this period will not have public objections,” he added.

But on the official schedule of the event, Gandra appears with the description of the government secretary.

Sponsors of the event include organizations that heavily lobby international organizations against any reference to abortion and promote the traditional idea of the family.

The main organizer, the Political Network for Values, openly attacked the WHO a few weeks ago on the advice of the international agency advocating decriminalization of abortion.

The group that invited Gandra accuses that “Promoting the decriminalization and facilitation of abortion through an international institution is a form of ideological colonization.” “Abortion is a social and cultural issue where an entire industry profits by exploiting pain and vulnerability.”

Hungarian Katalin Novák, until recently the leader of the movement, is now the country’s new president, one of Jair Bolsonaro’s few allies in the world.

The event will also feature some ultra-conservative leaders from Slovakia, Chile, Ecuador and Spain.
