Hundreds ukrainian soldiers to fight Russian forces from a Mariupol steel plant they faced an uncertain future at the hands of the Kremlin on Tuesday, after they were ordered by the Ukrainian military to surrender.
The surrender directive, issued late Monday, caused the soldiers to resign prisoners and ended the longest battle with Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, with almost three months.
Although Russia had problems with other battlefronts, the surrender of Mariupol compiled one of several territory achievements significant: the conquest of the formerly prosperous port in the southeast. The surrender also gave the Russian state media the ingredients to claim that your side wins.
