The Russian Foreign Ministry confirmed that at least five diplomats were expelled from the Portuguese embassy in Moscow.
This move by the Russian government came in response to a similar action that expelled 10 employees from the Russian embassy in Portugal’s Iberian country.
According to Moscow authorities, quoted by the Russian agency “Ria Novosti”, Portuguese diplomats have 14 days to leave the country.
The Russian government announced last Wednesday it would expel 24 Italian diplomats in retaliation for a similar action by Rome in early April. The decision has already been communicated to the Italian ambassador in Moscow, Giorgio Starace.
Again in retaliation for similar measures, Russia announced yesterday (18) that 34 diplomats from France and 27 from Spain were expelled.
