German Chancellor Olaf Scholz said today that he is not in favor of giving Ukraine a “shortcut” to European Union (EU) membership, which for him is “not a matter of months or years”.
“The fact that Ukraine is not a shortcut on the path to EU accession is an equality imperative for the six Western Balkan countries that have long wanted to join the European bloc.”
Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba today condemned the second-tier treatment of “some European capitals” regarding Ukraine’s EU candidacy.
“The strategic uncertainty imposed by some EU capitals in recent years regarding Ukraine’s European perspective has failed and must end,” Kuleba wrote on Twitter.
The German Chancellor also evaluated that the French President was “right to emphasize that Emmanuel Macron’s (EU) accession process is not a matter of a few months or a few years”.
