The lifeless body of the minor was recovered past 10 p.m. Three other children, between 13 and 15, who were not at the dam at the time of the tragedy, are receiving psychological care.
When the events happened, an hour before the high tide, the sea recorded a strong wavebut the weather was not bad, a spokesman for the maritime prefecture specified.
Suddenly the wave hit three people present at the dam, residents of the area. “They were dragged into the sea,” explained Finisterre prefecture cabinet director David Fotlz.
The job search included the deployment of three helicopters, as well way of lifeguards and firefighters. Fishermen also participated in the operations, according to Foltz.
The mayor of Plogoff, a town of 1,200 inhabitants, expressed his regret over what happened in an interview in Europe 1. “I was completely devastated,” Joël Yvenou said.
“I don’t understand, there has been no problem with this port. The place is not obviously dangerous. But you don’t have to go up the dyke when the sea reaches it. When I arrive at 18:45, you can see it everywhere . there were many waves“, He added.
The mayor concluded by sending a message to the population: “be very attentive. We are approaching the summer period. When you come ashore like that, you are not safe from having a bad encounter at sea. “
