Most of the gas used in Finland comes from Russia, but gas only makes up about 5% of the Nordic country’s annual energy consumption.
This announcement comes two days after Finland applied for membership in the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO), a request prompted by Russia’s invasion of Ukraine on February 24.
Gazprom did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said on Friday that Moscow had no detailed information about Gazprom’s supply contracts.
