Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese announced on Sunday that he will meet individually in Tokyo with the leaders of the United States, Japan and India a day after taking office.

“This allows us to send the message to the world that there is a new government,” he told media after declaring victory for the centre-left Labor Party in Saturday’s election.

“There will be changes in policy, particularly regarding climate change and our relationship with the world on these issues,” said the 59-year-old leader, who pledged to accelerate action to reduce Australia’s carbon emissions.

Albanese said he and key members of his team will be sworn in on Monday (23). The next day, the Quad, a group that brought together Australia, India, Japan and the United States, committed itself to attend the summit in Tokyo.
