Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy said on Monday that only meeting with his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin, can end the three-month war.
“I do not agree to any talks with Russian mediators, I only agree to meet with President Vladimir Putin, and there should be only one issue on the table: ending the war,” Ukrinform news agency reported.
According to Zelensky, decisions are not made without the presence of the Russian leader. “We should know this very well. And if we are talking about the decision to end the war, it cannot be made without him,” he added.
When asked how the war will end and whether he hopes to sign a peace treaty with the Russian President, the Ukrainian leader’s country “pays a high price, but it will definitely be a victory because there is no other way out”.
At the same time, Zelensky declared that he knew that “every war will end with diplomacy” and that “diplomacy can lead to peace, and peace is the desire of every normal person”.
Yesterday (22), Russian negotiator Vladimir Medinsky said that Moscow is willing to continue negotiations to seek a ceasefire in Ukraine and is confident that negotiations are suspended because of Kyiv.
Delegations from the two countries met in Istanbul in March, but without success. According to Ukraine’s negotiator Mikhailo Podoliak, talks have been suspended because Russia has focused its “special operation” on the east of the country.
