Economy Minister Paulo Guedes met with Ukraine’s Economy Minister Yulia Svyrydenko this Monday and denounced hostilities, according to information released by the ministry.

According to the ministry, Guedes underlined Brazil’s role as an international partner and reaffirmed the country’s commitment to contribute to the planet’s food and energy security.
In recent months, Brazil has called on other Western countries to take a stand against the Russian invasion of Ukraine. In February, days before the conflict began, President Jair Bolsonaro was criticized for making an official visit to Moscow, where he met with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
In April, Guedes noted that Brazil opposes the war but opposes the economic sanctions created by the conflict, noting that the country also opposes the expulsion of the Russians from the International Monetary Fund (IMF).
Days ago, the minister had received a letter from the Russian Finance Minister Anton Siluanov, who sought support from the Brazilian government in international organizations after facing economic sanctions.
