In a video conference at the Davos Forum on Monday, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky called for the complete withdrawal of foreign companies from Russia and invited them to participate in the rebuilding of his country in the post-war period.

Zelensky called on Russia to be targeted with “coercive sanctions” on “oil, such as the blockade of all banks without exception, the complete withdrawal of foreign companies from the Russian market”.

“We (companies) offer to continue operating in Ukraine, a market of 40 million people. I invite them to be part of the country’s reconstruction, a big task. We must rebuild all cities.” and business leaders in Davos, Switzerland.

The Ukrainian leader called for decisive action by the international community to set a precedent “to prevent any other aggressor from seeking to use brute force against their neighbours”.

Zelensky stressed that while he is grateful for the international assistance Ukraine has received so far, it is still not enough.

“There are no more peaceful cities, there are ruins. And bombs and missiles instead of tourism. If we continue as we are, this is the result,” he warned.

“It’s important to do this as soon as possible, with weapons, with sanctions. That’s why Ukraine needs all the weapons we want, not just the weapons we give away. And that’s why Ukraine needs financing, at least 5 billion USD per month,” he said. .

Zelensky said Ukraine has set several precedents, the first being “to show courage” against Russian aggression and the other to “unite the whole world”.

On the other hand, the President of Ukraine regretted that this union and the pressure against Russia did not start in 2014, when the annexation of the Crimean peninsula and the war in the Donbass region took place.

If that had happened then, the unity and pressure of governments and corporations, perhaps Russia would not have started this large-scale war and so many lives would not have been lost,” he said.

Zelensky said Ukrainian ports on the Black Sea were “completely closed” and Russian forces were blocking grain exports by “stealing our wheat every day”.

He stressed the need to create a corridor that would allow grain exports, and said he talked to foreign leaders, including the Baltic states, about it.
