Workers digging in the rubble found 200 bodies in Mariupol, Ukrainian authorities said on Tuesday. It was another frightening discovery in the destroyed port city, one of the areas hardest hit in the three months of the war.
The bodies were found in the basement of an apartment building that was destroyed, according to Petro Andryushchenko, an adviser to the city mayor.
Mariupol, where Russia recently claimed full control, has suffered some of the worst scenes of the war and has become an international symbol of disobedience within months of the fighters ’intense defense of an iron plant.
