An armed man entered a school in Texas, United States, on Tuesday. As confirmed by a local hospital, 16 people died in the bloody stage. The victims included 14 students, a teacher and the shooter.

It happened at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas. The first incident in the 18-year-old’s shooting would have taken place outside the school building, according to witnesses.

The attacker then ran to barricade himself in the building, where more gunfire could be heard. He was carrying a rifle.

Just after 3:30 pm (local time), about four hours after the first reports, Governor Greg Abbott confirmed that 14 students and a teacher had died. The shooter also died.

Earlier, Uvalde Memorial Hospital expected them to receive 13 children by ambulance and buses. “Two people came to the hospital lifeless,” they reported from that health center.

Two more injured went to San Antonio University Hospital. One of them was a 66-year-old woman, in critical condition.

The first reports were at 11.43 (local time). “There was an active shooting at Robb Elementary,” the school district warned on Twitter. “Law enforcement is already in place. Your cooperation is needed at this time by not visiting campus. As more information is gathered, it will be shared.”

After the initial reports, the school asked parents not to pick up their children. “Students must be accounted for before they are released into your care. You will be notified to pick up students when everything has been accounted for,” they warned in a message on their website.

Later, the students were evacuated to the civic center.

After 1 p.m., Police announced the “arrest” of a suspect. Later, according to the Texas governor, the man committed suicide shortly before the arrest.

Gun violence in the United States

On May 14, ten people were killed in a gun attack at a supermarket in Buffalo.

The shooter entered the supermarket with a rifle and fired, said one of the officers at the scene. He was arrested. Suspects pointed to racism as one of the motives for the attack, a version that was later supported by the dissemination of a manifesto that the aggressor would have left.

The brochure is full of messages of hatred, anti-Semitism, racism, conspiracy theories, memes and even contains unusual mentions of Argentina.

In any case, the two massacres that commemorated the Texas massacre were those in Columbine and Parkland.

In April 1999, two seniors killed 12 of Columbine’s classmates and a teacher. In 2018, 17 people were killed at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, in the Miami metropolitan area.
