Ukrainian boxing champion dies in battle against Russia aged 30 24/05/2022 15:43

Ukrainian boxer Oleg Prudky, the country’s former amateur boxing champion, died at the age of 30 on the front lines of the war against Russia. Prudky was part of the Cherkasy police special forces group in central Ukraine. In addition prudkyThree other members of the unit died in the attack of the Russian army last Sunday.

The Circassian police announced the death of their officers in a statement.

“They defended Ukraine – the murdered police heroes of the Cherkasy region. On May 22, our colleagues defending the state sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine, police officers of the General Directorate of Security KORD Department Special Operations Department, were killed. There are no words to describe the pain, the despair of the irreparable loss. We bow our heads, bowing to their parents. They will be remembered in our memories as honest and principled people, good friends and reliable colleagues. Our deepest condolences to your relatives and friends. We remember, we miss you. A wonderful memory.”

Prudky was never a professional boxer and only competed in amateur and semi-professional competitions. He became two-time national amateur champion in Ukraine and therefore was called up to the Ukrainian team Otamans to compete for them in the semi-professional competition WSB (World Boxing Series).

Ukrainian boxing icons Vasyl Lomachenko and Oleksandr Usyk represented their country on this team before Prudky followed in their footsteps fighting in the WSB in 2015.

Prudky worked for the police in his native Cherkasy region, as part of the special forces to defend Ukraine.

Prudky leaves a wife, Mariana, and two young daughters. Prudky’s wife, Mariana, posted photos of her husband in a post on Instagram, accompanied by an emotional text.
