A video released by the Armed Forces of Ukraine shows the moment when a kamikaze drone crashed into a tank believed to have come from Russia with soldiers. The images were shared on social media on the day the war between the two countries completed three months.
In the images taken with the drone camera, it is possible to see the soldiers on top of the combat vehicle. According to Ukraine, the Russians were “calmly drinking alcohol, sitting in the armor of their tanks”. It is unknown whether the equipment attack left people dead.
In a post on social media, the Armed Forces of Ukraine describes the drone as “a powerful explosive that flies directly into the tank and causes irreparable losses to the enemy.” Ukraine for the first time published images of the use of this combat equipment.
“This is a good example of how the training and professionalism of our soldiers, together with the assistance of foreign partners, has had positive results on the front,” added the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
U.S. supplied drones to Ukraine
The United States donated nearly 100 kamikaze drones to Ukraine in March this year. In April, a Pentagon official claimed that a small group of Ukrainian military had been trained to learn how to control combat drones.
This type of drone is essentially a remote-controlled bomb for hitting enemy targets. Switchblade drones, named after the way they spread their wings while taking off, are also known as tracking munitions because they can fly over areas and stay there until a target is identified. The operator can then direct them to explode.
In their original versions, these weapons were small enough to be carried in a backpack and were used by American troops in Afghanistan. A larger version with more explosives was developed by the US to attack armored vehicles. At the time, the Pentagon refused to confirm which of the two had been sent to Ukraine.
