Sergiy Dvornyk, adviser to the country’s mission to the United Nations (UN), said Russian forces had kidnapped at least 230,000 children since February 24, when the invasion of Ukraine began.

“The abduction of at least 230,000 Ukrainian children among the 1.4 million forcibly deported Ukrainian citizens to Russia is a crime aimed at destroying Ukraine,” the diplomat said at a debate at UN Headquarters (25) last Wednesday.

In his speech, Dvornyk reminded that tens of thousands of civilians were killed and many more injured in Russian attacks. In addition, the adviser said that around 220,000 people lost their homes and millions of Ukrainians had to flee from occupied or war-affected areas.

“We have no doubt that this refugee crisis is considered one of the positive outcomes in Russian war strategies.

Murders, torture and illegal detention, forced deportation, deprivation of property rights, alarming violations of human rights in the occupied territories, attacks on civilian infrastructure across Ukraine and confiscation of grain from local farmers and this is not a complete list of crimes. Against civilians in Ukraine,” he accused the diplomat.

A survey quoted by the Ukrainian Prosecutor’s Office by “Ukrinform” revealed that at least 240 children have been killed since the beginning of the Russian occupation. The ministry also stated that the data is not conclusive due to the ongoing conflicts in the country.

The last two children who lost their lives were in civilian vehicles hit by bombs in the Mykolaiv region. The greatest loss of life was recorded in Donetsk, Kyiv, Kharkiv and Chernihiv regions.
