Massacre in Texas: the attacker enters the school without resistance through an unlocked door

At a press conference, Victor Escalon, of the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) on Thursday confirmed that Salvador Ramos, the author of the massacre at an elementary school in Texas, enter the establishment without objection on a door that seemed unlocked.

Escalon’s statements came amid a reconstruction of what had happened throughout The attack lasted 90 minutes at Robb Elementary School, amid growing criticism of police over the excessive length of intervention to arrest Ramos, who killed 19 students and two teachersthe worst school massacre in a decade in the United States.

Police entered a few minutes later, but retreated under gunfire and called a backup. A tactical team of United States Border Patrol agents entered and killed the attacker ”about an hour later“said the police.

Meanwhile, police evacuated students and teachers and unsuccessfully tried to negotiate with the attackerto face them with a rifle shot, he said.

Escalon also denied earlier reports that Ramos had clashed with a school resource officer, it said. there were no armed officers in the area when the attack began.

In a video posted on social media and captured by Storyful, frustrated parents can be seen, urging police to enter the establishment. The footage also shows an officer nearly pushing one of the people out of the store.

Horrible testimonies after the Texas massacre

Daniel Myers, a 72-year-old pastor, told AFP he arrived with his wife Matilda in front of the school. about 30 minutes after Ramos entered.

“The parents were ready to come in. One said: ‘I’m in the army, just give me a gun, I’ll come in. I won’t hesitate. I’ll come in,'” he said.

“Officers responded within minutes,” Uvalde Police Chief Daniel Rodriguez said. In addition to the 21 dead, 17 people were injured on Tuesday, including three police officers.

Eulalio Díaz, a local official, was in charge of identifying the bodies until midnight, according to the newspaper The Paso Times. “Some of the children were upset“, he said.

The husband of a woman who died in the attack died Thursday, apparently of a heart attack, relatives announced. The couple left behind four children.

The tragedy shook Uvalde, a predominantly Latino town of 16,000 halfway between the city of San Antonio and the Mexican border.

The White House announced that President Joe Biden and his wife Jill will travel to Uvalde on Sunday to “join the mourning community.”

In addition to a memorial in front of the school, 21 white crosses are lined up in the central square of Uvalde, around a fountain, to commemorate each of the victims.

Dozens of residents laid flowers at the memorial on Thursday, where they too offers her condolences Meghan Marklethe wife of Prince Harry, who lives with his wife and two children in California.

“I love you, cousin, until next time,” wrote a maiden on the cross of one of the victims, Jackie Cazares.

At a news conference Tuesday, Texas Governor Greg Abbott revealed that armed with an AR-15 assault rifle killed.

The debate on arms regulation is virtually stagnant, due to the desperation that Congress will approve an ambitious law of national scope on the subject.
