A raccoon stuck its head on the roof of a house in the Santa Cruz Mountains in California (USA). The incident occurred over the weekend and was captured by the owners in an image that looked like it came straight out of a Pixar movie.
According to the Santa Cruz Sentinel newspaper, the female was raising her calf in the attic of the house, out of sight of the residents. When she needed to feed the cubs, she used a small opening in the roof to get in and out of the house. It is estimated that on Sunday night (22) the raccoon tried to get back to the bunker but stuck its head in the hole in the roof.
Later in the morning, the animal was spotted by residents outside the structure with its hips, hind legs and tail.
The landlady, whose identity has not been released, tried to get the mother of the raccoons off the roof, but was afraid of hurting her. That’s why she enlisted the help of Rebecca Dmytryk, CEO of the animal rescue and conservation group Wildlife Emergency Services Moss Landing.
However, Rebecca was dealing with another emergency and advised the assistant over the phone, “Don’t pull him out because he’ll bite you and everything you do has to be quick so you don’t scare him.”
The host took help from some of Rebecca’s colleagues who came to the scene to help with the rescue. After a concerted effort, the raccoon managed to free itself and quickly returned to the chicks.
“After working with wildlife for over 40 years, I can say that raccoons are the best mothers. They will do anything to protect their babies,” Rebecca said.
