MOSCOW, May 26 (EFE).- Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov stressed this Thursday Argentina’s interest in joining the BRICS group (composed of Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa).

In an interview with the “RT Arabic” television channel, Lavrov said, “Argentina expressed its desire to become a full member of the BRICS through the mouth of its Minister of Foreign Affairs, Santiago Cafiero.”

Argentina’s long-standing interest in joining the group is supported by Brazil and China, and indeed Cafiero was recently invited to attend a virtual group meeting.

Lavrov added that the group is currently preparing for the 14th leaders’ summit, scheduled for June 24.
