The Tablo, coordinated by the Ministry of Mines and Energy, was held with the participation of the ANP. [Agência Nacional do Petróleo, Gás Natural e Biocombustíveis]EPEE [Empresa de Pesquisa Energética] and representative associations and industry agents, (…) meet on Mondays every week in order to consolidate the supply expectations (national production and imports) with demand expectations from different perspectives and to obtain more accurate and expected diagnoses about the diesel supply for the coming months.

According to the dossier, Petrobras pointed to a reduction in global oil supply and stockpiles. diesel and demand for the product increased in the second half of this year, but “these are facts that are widely known and followed by the US. Monitoring Sector for National Fuel and Biofuel Supply”, MME.

The Ministry also announced that it is scheduling a meeting for next Friday (27), Tuesday, 24, but denied that the meeting had “any relevance to the file sent to this Ministry by Petrobras”.

“According to the latest data consolidated by the committee, S10 diesel stocks represent 38 days of imports. So if imports of this fuel were stopped today, the inventories would have been sufficient to meet the country’s needs along with national production. Moreover, since the beginning of the Federal Government’s intensified supply monitoring, diesel autonomy increased from 30 days to 38 days in terms of import days (26.7% increase).

Petrobras alert

The third quarter, which will run from July to September, will be the most sensitive to the diesel shortage problem in Brazil, according to Petrobras, as it will coincide with the height of the country’s main commodity, soybean transportation.

The scarcity and consequent increase in diesel fuel prices was supported by the Russian invasion of Ukraine. At the same time, the depreciation of the real against the dollar also increased the fuel price.

Petrobras adopts the PPI (International Parity Policy) to price the fuels based on their import costs. Therefore, the change in the dollar and oil barrel directly affects the calculation.
