A superyacht caught fire in southwest England on Saturday, sending thick clouds of black smoke into the sky and forcing the burning ship to float briefly over the marina.
Police and firefighters said the 26-foot yacht in Torquay, Devon, was “well lit” and contained 8,000 liters of diesel, thanks to the evacuation of the fire department, local areas and nearby beaches.
Devon & Cornwall Police said: “Due to the smoke levels, we are asking residents to keep doors and windows closed for now.” Said. We also want the public to avoid clearing the area and beaches by the police for their safety,” he said.
Police said no one was injured in the fire and the yacht was safe after she was released from its mooring. The police did not say who owned the yacht.
