Honduran prosecutor Karen Almendares was killed when she entered her home.
The Environmental Prosecutor of southern Honduras, Karen Almendareswas shot to death in the city of Nacaóme, where he lives, a hundred kilometers from Tegucigalpa, local media reported on Saturday.
The crime occurred when Almendares opened the gate of his house, in the El Chagüite neighborhood, when he was returning from a gym.
According to unofficial versions, the prosecutor killed he is the brother of a senior officer in the Honduran Armed Forces.
The deputy of the ruling Libertad y Refundación (Free) party and former prosecutor Jari Dixon mourned the murder of Almendares in a message posted on Twitter.
“Prosecutor Karen Almendares was murdered in Nacaóme, my deepest condolences to her family, Karen was my assistant when I was a prosecutor, how horrible,” Dixon said.
