War in Ukraine: Russia’s vice restricts Sievierodonetsk in Donbass

The fight continues in eastern Ukraine for control of the Donbass region where Russian forces have threatened the large city of Sievierodonetsk, which was relentlessly shot down after the occupation – according to Moscow – of the main locality of Lyman.

Capture of the City of Lyman

President Zelensky recognized that the situation in this region of Donbass [était] very difficult, with intensive artillery and missile strikes. But he felt that if the occupiers thought that Lyman and Sievierodonetsk would be theirs, they were mistaken. Donbass will be Ukrainian.

After the unsuccessful offensives in Kyiv and Kharkiv (northeast) at the start of the war, Russian forces focused on eastern Ukraine, with the stated goal of completely seizing the partially controlled Donbass since 2014 by pro- Russian separatists supported by Moscow.
