Since he ordered the invasion of Ukraine, speculation has circulated about the physical and mental health of Russian President Vladimir Putin. When it comes to Parkinson’s, cancer and even dementia, Putin is always trying to present an image of a healthy and active man.

The latest wave of implication started after a video of him holding a desk for a long time went viral. Soon came the comments that he wasn’t really healthy.

The whole thing could have remained in the field of rumors, but the issue was also taken up by high-level sources in the allied countries and people close to the Russian government.

British spy Christopher Steele, who wrote a dossier on Donald Trump’s relations in Russia, said in an interview with Sky News that sources said Putin was seriously ill.

“Certainly from what we’ve heard from sources in Russia and elsewhere, Putin is really seriously ill,” he said. “It’s unclear exactly what this disease is – is it incurable or fatal or whatever.”

The head of Ukraine’s military intelligence, Major General Kyrylo Budanov, told the broadcaster that Putin was “in very bad shape, psychologically and physically, and very ill”.

Budanov also claimed that the president’s state of health led to a coup d’etat to overthrow him. “They’re acting this way and it’s impossible to stop them,” he added.

The poor performance in the war against Ukraine will also be the reason for the project to remove Putin from power.

Newsline Magazine, a Pakistani magazine, published in early May a recording of a Russian oligarch close to the Kremlin saying that Putin has blood cancer and is in poor health.

“It absolutely destroyed the Russian economy, the Ukrainian economy, and many other economies. It absolutely destroyed it,” the man said in part of the recording. “The problem is in the head. A crazy man can turn the world upside down,” he said.

The publication says the audio represents a rare testimony of someone with proven ties to the Russian government – the oligarch didn’t know it was being recorded.

According to The Times, in the same audio recording, the Russian oligarch claimed that Putin had low back surgery due to blood cancer shortly before ordering the Russian army to invade Ukraine. “We all hope that Putin dies,” the Russian official said.

Finally, the Russian portal Proekt Media noted that the Russian president is constantly accompanied by a doctor specializing in thyroid cancer. The report states that surgeon Yevgeny Selivanov from the Moscow Central Clinical Hospital visited Putin 35 times in Sochi, where the leader’s residence is located.

What is the truth?

Despite this, it’s hard to know what actually happened in the speculations. While it’s already nearly impossible to discover any details about Putin’s private life, his health data seems even more likely.

Dmitry Peskov, the Russian leader’s press secretary, denied any problems and said the current situation is “perfect”.

According to the Russian portal Proekt, which is trying to research the health of the country’s president, Peskov said that the Russian president was “exercising, walking in the taiga and just catching a cold,” and denied any health problems.
