Independent millionaire Rodolfo Hernández and leftist Gustavo Petro are technically tied in their intentions to vote in Colombia’s June 19 presidential election, according to a poll released today.

According to the National Counseling Center (CNC), in the first opinion poll after Sunday’s first round, Hernández received 41% of support versus 39% of his opponent.

There is a 2.8% margin of error in the poll, which was attended by 1,200 people, with both candidates technically equal.

Petro, the 62-year-old senator and former guerrilla fighter, won with 40% of the vote and will face Hernández (77), who surprisingly survived the power struggle with the second-best vote (28%) in the second round.

Hernández, the eccentric former mayor of Bucaramanga (north), who encompassed the entire anti-corruption program, was the top-growing candidate in the final part of the presidential race.

With opposing intentions for change, both he and Petro are considered anti-system politicians, representing the punishment of the elites who have historically ruled this country of 50 million people.

Hernández had support from the right and other traditional forces for voting on a kind of “anti-Petrista” front that brought him closer to power. Petro, who may be the first president of the left, receives support from the sectors in the center.

Without a backing party or a clear ideology, Hernández managed to engage in combat with “TikTok” propaganda and pithy messages against the ruling class and waste of public resources. He has never been seen on any platform and has already announced that he will not participate in the discussions.
