Colombian Interior Minister Daniel Palacios said after meeting with Paraguayan President Mario Abdo Benítez this Thursday (2) that the investigation into the murder of Paraguayan prosecutor Marcelo Pecci in Colombia is on the “right track”.
“There will be results soon,” Palacios said at a press conference. “We spared no resources or skills to reach those responsible for the crime against Pecci. We are working to uncover and bring to justice the material and intellectual authors of this horrific murder.” With Colombian police chief Jorge Vargas.
Pecci was killed on May 10 while on his honeymoon on the beach of Baru, not far from Cartagena, in the Colombian Caribbean. On April 30, he married journalist Claudia Aguilera, who was expecting her child.
Pecci was 45 years old and was investigating cases of drug trafficking and organized crime. His murder was committed by hitmen who shot him from the sea with jet skis.
Vargas, in turn, stated that “the actions between the two police [Colômbia e Paraguai]” is taking place in a coordinated manner, emphasizing the creation of a binational technical commission for cooperation on security issues.
During their visit to Paraguay, the two Colombian officials met with Interior Minister Federico González and other security officials. Tomorrow they will attend the opening of the Mercosur Ministers of Interior and Security meeting in Asunción.
