Former White House Trade Director and close ally of former President Donald Trump, Peter Navarro, was accused of contempt for Congress on Friday after rejecting a subpoena that the House committee investigating the March 6 attack will send to the US Capitol in January 2021.

Navarro, 72, was accused of refusing to testify and handing over documents to the committee investigating attacks by hundreds of Trump supporters who sought to block Joe Biden’s certification as the winner of the 2020 presidential election.

Navarro has been detained and is expected to appear in court Friday afternoon, according to the Washington federal district court.

The Justice Department said the committee investigating whether Trump, his aides and other top Republicans launched the attack believes Navarro may have information on the case.

The committee said it had information showing that Navarro was working with Steve Bannon, Trump’s former political adviser, to “delay Congressional approval and ultimately change the outcome of the November 2020 presidential election.”

After collecting the documents and interviewing hundreds of witnesses in private, the committee plans to hold public hearings to present its results from 9 June.

In a book published in November, Navarro explained that he created a post-election plan called the “Green Bay Sweep”, in reference to football, to reverse Biden’s electoral victory by preventing it from being ratified in Congress. He wrote that Trump “agrees with the strategy”.
