Since the outbreak of war in Ukraine, a couple from Granby of Ukrainian descent have stepped up their efforts to help their home country. Lada Stroykova and Yevgeniy Stroykov notably collected material and money to send them to the soldiers and civilians of the bombed cities. Their Facebook page, created on the first day of the fighting, also provided a very active movement of citizens preparing for the reception of citizens.
There is something to be done. We cannot go on like thisunderlined Mrs. Stroykova.
Thanks to his Facebook group, he was able to get started by supporting the soldiers in the front. My brother’s friend is ahead. For these soldiers we bought here glasses, protection, gloves, binoculars …he lists.
Through another channel, money and materials went to kyiv to help civilians.

The couple, who have been based in Granby since 2004, can rely on their son in Montreal to facilitate shipments through a Ukrainian church.

At Granby, the community surrounding the couple has grown over the days. Their Facebook group now has over 240 members. Donations are also in storage awaiting families coming to Canada. Other volunteers are organizing a benefit garage sale this Saturday in front of Saint George’s church in Granby, along with surpluses from the collections. Ukraine flag pins made by the Cercle de fermières de Waterloo will also be sold.
