Landslides occur frequently in the Cuban capital, especially in the old part of Cuba where old properties are largely deteriorated and are facing overcrowding.

At a government meeting to assess the damage and coordinate actions, Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel urged authorities to “respond immediately to families with partially and completely damaged homes,” according to Granma.

Heavy rains became Tropical Storm Alex, the first of this season, after reaching the Atlantic and crossing the Florida peninsula, brought on by the low-pressure system left over from Hurricane Agatha that hit the Pacific coast of southern Mexico. Starting on 1 June and ending on 30 November .

According to the US National Hurricane Center (NHC), headquartered in Miami, Florida, Storm Alex was about 1,000 kilometers west of Bermuda on Sunday morning with a maximum sustained wind of 96 km/h.
