Following the US example, the Ministry of Defense announced today that the UK will supply Ukraine with 80km range rocket launchers to combat the Russian offensive.

These M270 MLRS systems will “significantly increase the capacity of the Ukrainian forces,” the ministry said. The decision was taken in “close coordination” with Washington, which announced last week the supply of Himars equipment 80 km, that is, multiple rocket launchers mounted on lightly armored vehicles.

The Ukrainians have been asking for rocket launchers for some time now to attack Russian positions while placing their batteries away from the front. But US President Joe Biden refused to provide Ukraine with long-range rocket launch systems that could reach Russia, in order to prevent the US from being viewed as a joint fighter.

“Ukraine can win if the international community maintains its support,” said British Defense Secretary Ben Wallace. “Russia’s strategy is changing, and our support must change,” he added, emphasizing that the new weapons would provide Ukrainians “better protection against the brutal use of long-range artillery, which Putin’s forces indiscriminately resorted to to crush cities.” .
