Britain’s Tories will be called to vote under Boris Johnson’s leadership in a vote of confidence scheduled for local dawn time on Monday.
Graham Brady, one of the prime minister’s party officials, said he had received enough letters from other lawmakers requesting such a vote to justify the procedure.
If a majority of his 359 caucus members vote against him, Mr Johnson will lose his position as party leader and prime minister. If enough elected officials trust him, he is safe from another vote of confidence for another year.
Boris Johnson struggles to eliminate ethics scandals, particularly his violations of health rules in the wake of the lockdowns imposed at the end of the COVID-19 pandemic.
