The attack on Reagan
John began planning his attack when Jimmy Carter he was president. I wanted to imitate what Travis does in one of the film’s scenes. But since Carter lost the election, the new target was Reagan.
He went to Washington and learned that Reagan was at the Hilton Hotel. He believed that when he left the building it would be the perfect time.
Two hours before meeting the president at the hotel door, he wrote a letter to Foster as proof of the act he would commit for her. She left it in the room.

One of the bullets ricocheted off the 70-year-old politician’s limousine and hit him in the torso under the left arm. He survived the attack thanks to the excellent work of the doctors.
Who got worse was James Brady, the White House press secretary at the time. He was shot in the head and although he survived, he was disabled for life.
