A car hit a couple passing through Berlin: at least one person was killed

A car crashed into passers -by in central Berlin on Wednesday morning, killing one person and injuring eight others, firefighters told AFP.

The vehicle crashed into a window in this shopping district located near the Zoo station and its driver was arrested, said a police spokesman who could not determine if it was intentional or loss of control of the vehicle.

According to the daily Photothe victim was a man and the photo published by the popular newspaper showed rescuers and police busy around the stretcher.

The facts took place near the Memorial Church, a landmark monument in the western part of the German capital, located in one of Berlin’s busiest commercial arteries, the Kurfürstendamm.

Several police were deployed at the scene, which was also located just next to the plaza where on December 19, 2016, an Islamist ram truck attack was carried out at a Christmas market, killing 12 people.

According to the local newspaper BZthe car is a silver Renault vehicle.

A photo spreading on Twitter showed a small vehicle, passenger door open, embedded in the window of a large perfume chain.
