More than 1,000 Ukrainian soldiers and foreign mercenaries who surrendered at the Azovstal steelworks in Mariupol have flown to Russia for arrest and questioning, Tass news agency reported Wednesday, citing Moscow government security sources.

“Law enforcement is working with them, and investigators have a program to take other prisoners to Russia in the future,” the representative told the agency.

Kyiv reported that there were 959 resident fighters who surrendered at the steelworks on May 18 and was working to repatriate all POWs.

On Wednesday, the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine confirmed that 210 bodies of those who died in Mariupol, most of whom acted to defend the steel complex, were returned to Kiev.
