China has managed to keep secretly the construction of its second military base abroad in its thousand-year history, but it has finally gone public because they are about to inaugurate it in the northern part of the Ream naval base, in Cambodia.

It is a real event, it was built and will operate on the gigantic Indus Pacific stagethe main geopolitical space of its confrontation with the United States, the other world superpower.

The first base is in Djibouti, in East Africa.

The fact that the latter is now ready to operate reveals how times have changed and how the Indo Pacific, which encompasses it the Indian and Pacific oceansit is the key to strategic movements, especially maritime ones, between the straits through which ships pass more than half of the commercial activity, especially on board the containers.

The United States created and consolidated alliances with Japan, South Korea, Australia, New Zealand and other countries contain Chinawhich is located in its Asian territory of over eight million square kilometers in the Indo-Pacific.

There are also nations such as Vietnam, where the first war lost by the United States was fought in the 1960s and 1970s and which today maintains good relations with Washington which covers him in his hostilities for the disputed territories with China.

The military expansionism of the Dragon, as the US Pentagon military call China, it affects all Western intelligence services. There is no doubt that Beijing’s strategy has changed.

What is China looking for?

Americans believe the base in Cambodia paves the way for a network of military facilities which will be extended to the whole world to be addressed Chinese reality as a true global superpower.

Within the Indo-Pacific scenario, China appears to want to enter with new structures west of the South China Sea to accommodate the movement of large warshipsalso the new aircraft carriers joining the Beijing Navy.

A geopolitical space within which it incubates a powder keg of conflict.

The US military affirms it they do not want to be distracted by the Russian invasion of Ukrainethat although serious and dramatic it is a secondary phase regarding the Indo-Pacific. China considers it a historical sphere of influence due to its importance main sea routes in Southeast Asia.

a secret affair

The Chinese have been moving to Cambodia for decades and to the large naval base that will now host them. US intelligence knew it had been signed a secret affair which allowed him to use it. A Chinese official confirmed to the Washington Post last week that part of the Ream naval base will be used “by the Chinese army” and which will be inaugurated on Thursday 9 June.

The Pentagon believes in the Ream base This is the first step to “project itself as a naval, air, land, computer and space power”.

The Chinese military has initiated talks, in addition to Cambodia, with Thailand, Singapore, Indonesia, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Tanzania and the United Arab Emirates. A network to “interfere in US military operations and support offensive operations against the United States,” says a report.

Apparently nothing has been officially made public, US officials last year managed to block a military installation in the United Arab Emirates that China was secretly building “in a port near Abu Dhabi”, the capital of the Emirates.

The global strategy of domination of US military power is mainly based on control of the seas. The United States Navy has 297 battleships, from nuclear-powered aircraft carriers and submarines to smaller warships. China has 355 ships and is expected to have 460 by 2030.

China has expanded into the Indo-Pacific by military means, particularly in the South China Sea which largely considers its exclusive sovereignty. He built artificial islands in the coral reefs and atolls of the Spratzly Islands archipelago. He has made installations that justified as scientific but in reality these are militarized spaces.

A recent Solomon Islands agreement signed with China opens the door to naval visits and activities that include the ability to enter with military forces to “protect the safety of Chinese personnel and major projects.”

The concerns of the United States and its allies are that China can send military forces to the Solomon Islands and establish a permanent military base two thousand kilometers from Australia.

A serious incident occurred a few days ago that aggravated tensions between China and Australia. A Beijing military fighter approached the Australian P-8 Poseidon aircraft which was carrying out routine maritime surveillance.

“Flying close to the Chinese J-16 plane fired rockets and positioned himself in front of the Canberra fighter throwing pieces of aluminum that were ingested by the engine of the Australian plane“, Reads a protest statement, which underlined the threat to security caused by the Chinese fighter.
