That’s why a teacher injured in a school shooting in Uvalde, Texas on May 24 told police officers that they didn’t act quickly as students were shot.

All 11 children in his class were killed when gunman Salvador Ramos broke into the classroom and next door neighbor for over an hour while police were in the hallway.

“I had a bulletproof vest. I had nothing,” Professor Arnulfo Reyes told police in a harrowing interview with ABC News.

21 people, including 19 children, lost their lives in the attack.

The attack sparked a new national debate over gun regulation in the country.

‘It will be a nice day’

Reyes, a fourth-grade teacher who has taught for 17 years, said she thought “it would be a good day” on her way to school.

When the shooting started, the students were watching the movie. He said they hid under tables and pretended to sleep as they had been taught.

However, the criminal entered from an adjacent room and started shooting.

Reyes was shot, and he followed the advice he gave his students and pretended to be unconscious.

Lying next to his desk, he could hear the police entering the school minutes after the attacker.

However, it took more than an hour for the police to invade the classroom and kill the attacker.

“I prayed I wouldn’t hear any of my students speak,” Reyes told ABC News.

I thought I was going to die.

“One of the students in the other class was shouting, ‘Police officer, we’re here, we’re here,'” he said.

“But they’re gone. So he [o assassino] He got up from behind my desk and started shooting again.”

‘I will never forgive them’

Police say the killer hid in the classroom for 77 minutes before agents entered the scene after providing conflicting information.

Uvalde police officers came under harsh criticism for the delay in their response.

Reyes said she felt abandoned by the police. “There is no excuse for what they did and I will never forgive them.”

He called them “cowards”.

Authorities say police were “misguided” into thinking the situation had changed from “active shooter” to “subject in the bay”.

During the attack, the boys hastily called 911 to report multiple shooting victims. Worried parents also tried to enter but were stopped by the police.

Investigators say the boys’ messages were not forwarded to officers on the scene, who waited for more armed equipment to arrive before attacking the rifle-wielding killer.
