New York, June 8, 2022 (AFP) – Former US President Donald Trump and his sons Donald Jr and Ivanka will testify in the tax fraud case filed by the New York attorney’s office from July 15. judicial resources.
New York State Attorney Letitia James and her investigative team will continue to question “next week,” according to a court document.
Trump and his sons Donald Jr and Ivanka have until June 13 to file an appeal with the highest court in New York.
The trio tried every means to evade sworn questioning for the tax evasion case instructed by Democrat Attorney James, claiming the case was political.
New York State Judge Arthur Engoron ruled in February that the three of them must testify and rejected Trump’s request to overturn James’ quotations.
Since 2019, James has been investigating the former president and the Trump Organization for possible fraud and has tried to question him for months.
In January, the prosecutor said in his investigation he found evidence that various assets were fraudulently assessed and that these amounts were misrepresented in order to pay less taxes.
The Trumps, on the other hand, refuse to commit any wrongdoing.
Last month, the former president paid a $110,000 fine for refusing to hand over evidence and documents to investigators.
The James investigation is one of many court battles that the 75-year-old businessman and politician has fallen into, which could complicate their eventual aspirations to run in the 2024 presidential election.
The Trump Organization is also being investigated by the Manhattan District Attorney for possible tax crime and insurance fraud.
In July last year, the Trump Organization and its then-CFO, Allen Weisselberg, pleaded guilty to 15 counts of fraud and tax evasion in a New York court.
The hearing is scheduled for this year.
So far, Trump has yet to confirm his intention to run again for the GOP nomination in the White House race.
