The Washington County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a shooting. with multiple victims at the Columbia Machine in Smithsburg, Maryland, according to Lt. Joshua McCauley.
said Governor Larry Hogan that “potentially three people” died in the shooting and that the suspect exchanged fire with a state policeman, hitting him in the shoulder. “Suspicion is no longer a threat to the community,” according to the Washington County Sheriff’s Office.
Smithsburg is located approximately 120km west of Baltimore.
Columbia Machine is a company that offers “complete lines of equipment to customers in more than 100 countries, “according to its website.
McCauley said the scene remains active but there is no threat to the community.
CNN has contacted other authorities for more information.
Baltimore’s Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives tweeted that special agents they’re assisting the sheriff’s office with the incident.

This deadly new shooting comes at a time when the gun control debate has made a comeback in the United States after tragic mass shootings in a supermarket in Buffalo, New York, and in a College of Uvalde (Texas).
In the latter 19 children died. —Most of them are 10 years old— and two teachers.
A few hours earlier, this Thursday, the United States House of Representatives voted in favor of a legislative initiative which allows the activation of a legal procedure for the confiscation of firearms from persons who may represent a danger to others or to themselves.
The measure, which must now be voted on in the Senate, was approved with the support of 224 deputies, the overwhelming majority of whom from the Democratic Party and with the opposing vote of 202 MPs, practically all of the Republican Party.
