The Ukrainian military said on Friday it attacked Russian positions in the Kherson region (south), which is almost entirely under Moscow control and where Kiev fears a referendum to annex the region to Russia.
“Our aviation attacked Russian positions, points where equipment, personnel and warehouses were gathered at five points in Kherson,” the Ukrainian Army General Staff said in a statement on Facebook.
Kherson was one of the first areas to come under the control of Russian troops after the invasion, which began on February 24.
Russian authorities in the occupied areas of Kherson have hinted that they may hold a referendum in July to integrate these areas into Russia, as a popular consultation took place in 2014 that ended with the annexation of the Crimean peninsula.
