“We understand very well that there will be elections in Brazil in October in the coming months. We understand very well the concern of the Brazilian people on this issue. So much so that at the meeting President Bolsonaro said that he respects democracy, he said that he will respect the result. We will take this statement made by President Bolsonaro seriously,” he said. .

Bolsonaro reiterated that electronic voting machines are uncontrollable and has already suggested that he may not accept the outcome of the October election.

“We have elections in Brazil and we want clean, credible and auditable elections so that there is no doubt after the election,” Bolsonaro told Biden yesterday at the opening of the bilateral inauguration.

The Supreme Electoral Court (TSE) rejects Bolsonaro’s discrediting statements and says the system is verifiable and secure and has never had significant evidence of fraud. “I am confident that the elections will be held in this democratic manner. I came for democracy, and I am confident that when I leave the government, it will also be democratically,” Bolsonaro said. The Americans took this latest statement as a commitment to Bolsonaro. “People are clearly taking the words that come out of the president’s mouth seriously,” Rosales said.

He also said that after hearing Biden’s statements about the electoral system, Bolsonaro “listened and respected”. “There’s nothing to say behind Bolsonaro’s back,” Rosales said. Bolsonaro said he was “surprised” after a bilateral meeting with Biden. When asked how the American president felt after the meeting, Rosales avoided using the same term. “I can say that President Biden was very pleased with the meeting,” Rosales said. According to him, the dialogue opens a new stage in US-Brazil relations, but there is still no prediction on what the next steps will be.

‘Insecurity’

However, after the spokesperson’s statements, the president said that the TSE should evaluate the proposals regarding the election process of the Armed Forces. This Friday, the Ministry of Defense sent a letter to the TSE asking the court to facilitate auditing of the polls by political parties, as Bolsonaro requested.

“We can’t make an election under the guise of distrust. And there is time. There is no mention of official writing in the printed votes, only technical issues. It was a very important issue, the proposal for simultaneous counting. I don’t think so. I know why they did not accept this. I am the TSE president, I accept all the suggestions. We will discuss and reach a common denominator,” he said. He said the two presidents talked about the electoral system and “talked loosely” with Biden about it, with the State Department claiming Bolsonaro was committed to accepting the election results. “I’m not here to bring issues out of Brazil. I’m not going to get into this discussion. We all want clean, transparent and auditable elections, as most of the TSE want,” he added. Bolsonaro also criticized TSE Chairman Edson Fachin, who said that the elections were not a matter of the Armed Forces.

“We were invited, I am the Head of the Armed Forces, we submitted their best in the cyber defense command to the election judgement, we identified hundreds of weaknesses, we made new suggestions, and then TSE always rejected it. Discuss his technical team with ours,” said Bolsonaro. “The TSE may even be right, but then Fachin declared that the elections were about the unarmed forces, not the armed forces. Then why did he invite us?”
