The government of Nicaragua, through the Ministry of the Interior, has ordered the closure of another 93 local NGOs, including the Center of Nicaraguan Writers (CNE), founded by the late priest and poet Ernesto Cardenal (1925-2020), the legislature reported this Saturday.

With those new 93 non-profit associations rise to 550 Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) whose ban has been called for by the Executive of President Daniel Ortega since December 2018, eight months after the outbreak of a popular uprising – caused by controversial social security reforms – described as an attempted coup by the government.
