The Russian government said on Saturday that pre-war Ukraine “no longer exists”. The conflicts in the country have already exceeded 100 days.
“The Ukraine we know within these borders no longer exists. And it will no longer exist, it is clear. These borders no longer exist,” Maria Zakharova, spokeswoman for the Russian Foreign Ministry, told Sky News.
Since the invasion began on February 24, Moscow has captured most of the provinces of Lugansk and Donetsk, which have been the scene of separatist conflicts in eastern Ukraine since 2014, and the province of Kherson, halfway between Mariupol and Odessa.
According to Russia, its main purpose in the invasion is to “liberate” Donbass, where Lugansk and Donetsk are located.
But some generals have already talked about the possibility of taking all of southern Ukraine and establishing a land corridor with Transnistria, a pro-Moscow separatist region in Moldova.
